Midazolam But not Propofol for Sedation Impairs Long Term Spatial Memory in Mice

Aim and Background: Sedation may alter memory learning. This study is designed to investigate the effects of short-acting sedative agents, propofol midazolam, on learning in mice. Materials Methods: Thirty male, adult Swiss-albino mice were randomly assigned into three groups as control, midazolam (n=10, for each). Experiments started 72 hours after intraperitoneal injections. Learning short term development evaluated by Morris Water Maze conducted five consecutive days, 19th day long formation was same experimental set up. Time find escape platform (latency), total distance covered swimming speed recorded statistically. Results: Propofol administrations found increase latency. In addition, impair development, when compared other two (p < 0,01). Swimming indicators motor activity decreased gradually from beginning, however there no statistically difference between > 0.05). Conclusion: Use prolonged latency first days. Midazolam also affect negatively.
